Step 1 : Understand the context of the project

_Our site project is caracterized by the diversity of its context : it is surrounded by different residential typologies, differents programs (residential, commercial, infrastructural ..), and therefore different architectural elements (train station, high residential buildings, low residential buildings). This characteristic is fondamental to the conception of our project which is to create a new identity to the project area by reinforcing its presence.

_But the project area is also caracterized by it topography ; it has a 7 meters difference between its opposite points (West/East). This geomorfological variation creates an urban fracture in the context and needs to become more accessible, more easy to understand, and visually reinforced. Today this fracture isn't beeing taken care of, and stands as an obstacle to one's parcours in the city.

Pictures of the model : understanding the existing topography

_Close context :

- Viale Trastevere : 9 floors residential building

- Viale Trastevere : 5 floors (medium) urban front

- Viale Trastevere / Via degli Orti di Cesare : parching following the 7m change of level

- Via Ettore Rolli : 6 (medium) floors urban front

- Piazza Biondo Flavio : presence of the train station

>>> These strongs characteristics of our project area explains further our project and architectural choices

Step 2 : Intervention on the context with the project

In order to respond to the precedent considerations we decided to create 4 important and high elements ; one tower of 9x9m perimeter, two towers of 9x15m perimeter and one tower of 9x12m perimeter. These approximate dimensions justify for now our choice to create thin and high elements, in order to keep visual connexions from one point to another of the site project, while creating a visually strong project.

By making this choice, a first problematic is the disposition of these elements on the site in order to maintain light, visual connexions, but also in order to create dialogs between each architectural element. For this first study we chose our primarial idea :

                                                            impianto.jpg

Fotograph : primarial idea of the diposition of our 4 elements on the site

                                                      assono.jpg

Axonometry : primarial idea of the diposition of our 4 elements on the site

This first general diposition is the one we will use to run the first solar analysis for now, but there will be eventually modification of the horizontal and vertical relations between each element.

Step 3 : Running solar analysis on our first project idea

> Running shadow analysis on Vasari software to understand how our project interacts with its context.

Shadow analysis project.jpg

We can conclude on the impact of the towers : on the main street side the project doesn't affect the context, given the distance between the two urban fronts. Whereas on the inner side of the area (towards the East) the towers affect the existing buildings in a partial way during the afternoons. The relation they have with each other should be more optimum also to avoid that one tower created too much shadow to another. We can also see that the facades which give toward the carrefour are highly exposed to direct sunligh and that has to be taken in consideration for the next steps of our project.

We can conclude on the diversity of expositions of our towers ; the sensitive points that will need consideration are : the exposed facades towards the Piazza Biondo Flavio (Sud-West) whom exposition will have to be taken care of (solar filters, choice of materials etc) and the non exposed facades in the courtyard ; controlling and/or increasing the amount of glass superficies and indirect sunlight

Step 4 : Levels

>  defining the different levels of our project on Vasari :
